Manitou Springs is a small mountain town 4 mile west of Colorado Springs nestled between Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. Since its founding in 1872 by General William Jackson Palmer and Dr. William Abraham Bell as a "scenic health resort," Manitou has attracted tourists and the health conscious alike.  Many of the natural springs in the town, originally discovered by the Ute Indians, still function today. The small historic and eclectic downtown area is home to many wonderful local shops, coffee shops, and restaurants. Manitou's creek side park and historic penny arcade are wonderful attraction to both locals and tourists.
